LASIK and PRK are laser vision correction procedures that help reduce dependence on glasses and contact lenses. Both reshape the cornea to improve vision, but they differ in how the eye is treated and how quickly it heals.

Both procedures are similar in that they use the last in laser technology and software to treat Myopia, Hyperopia and Astigmatism.  The major advantages to LASIK are greater comfort, less use of eye drops after surgery and quicker visual recovery.  PRK has its advantages as well.  PRK is significantly safer than LASIK as it a quicker procedure and does not require an incision.   Both procedures are safe, FDA approved and uses custom laser patterns to optimize vision.

LASIK

  • A thin corneal flap is created.
  • Visual recovery is usually faster.
  • Initial discomfort is often less noticeable.

PRK

  • No corneal flap is created.
  • Recovery takes longer as the corneal surface heals.
  • May be a suitable option for certain patients who prefer a flap-free procedure.
